How it Works
Asphalt shingles are prone to drying out and losing their essential oils, which leads to brittleness and a shortened lifespan. However, by preserving these oils within the shingle composition, the Greener Shingles Rejuvenator product can significantly prolong the shingles' usefulness, adding an impressive five years to their longevity with each application.
Asphalt roofs usually start showing signs of aging after 8-10 years depending on region and environmental conditions. The shingle’s granular coating starts washing into the gutters as the essential oils dry up, losing the ability to hold the granular in place.
Asphalt shingle granular coating starts washing into the gutters (those little rocks, in your gutters) as the oil dries out, thus the shingle looses the ability to hold the granular in place, leaving it exposed to cracking and failing.
LAB TESTED AND PROVEN

-
Increases adhesion of the protective top granule coating
-
Reduces hail impact damage and subsequent granule loss
-
Restores permeability closer to new shingles

Greener Shingles Rejuvenator was inspired by a patented asphalt rejuvenator used to preserve the oil in roads, driveways, and parking lots for the past 15 years. Greener Shingles Rejuvenator bio-based asphalt rejuvenator technology was then reformulated for asphalt roofing shingles and is now exclusively available for authorized dealers to ensure proper installation of the rejuvenator.
Lab Testing and Research
After completing a series of vigorous lab tests the Greener Shingles Rejuvenator has demonstrated that it can help reduce the effects of aging after being applied to asphalt shingles, improve granular adhesion, helps protect the surface and improve fire retardancy.

*PRI IS IN NO WAY AFFILIATED WITH GREENER SHINGLES Rejuvenator OUTSIDE OF THIS INITIAL INDEPENDANT LAB TEST and 2022 contiued weather testing.
PRI is a national and global leader in materials testing and performance. PRI provides accredited, independent, third-party testing, evaluation, and technical services to the Asphalt/Bitumen, Building Materials, Chemical, Construction/Infrastructure, and Energy Markets.
Background: Rejuvenators have a long history of limited use in the asphalt roofing industry. Initial use was limited to conventional hot-mopped built-up roofs. Over the years, there have been attempts to restore/maintain rejuvenated asphalt shingle roofs.
In the most recent times, asphalt rejuvenation has gained national focus in the paving industry. In response to the enhanced focus, a number of new technologies have been introduced. Some of these products are advancing the rejuvenation/restoration technologies and are hypothesized to exhibit efficacy in the asphalt roofing industry.
Objective: Perform and assess selected screening evaluations to provide insight on the Greener Shingles roof treatment.

Aged Asphalt Shingles 3-Tab Organic Felt Based Rejuvenator Roof Shingle Treatment
OBJECTIVE: Perform and assess selected screening evaluation to provide insight on Greener Shingles Roof Shingle Treatment System.
CONCLUSIONS: Based on a Spray Application Rate of 1 gal/125 ft.2, followed by a five (5) day ‘cure’ period on aged shingles provided.
These screening evaluations strongly suggest the Greener Shingles Roof Treatment provides benefits to key performance properties of asphalt shingles associated with durability and possible extended life cycles.
-
Flexibility, 23°C was improved (Failure to pass).
-
Granular Adhesion was improved significantly from a granular loss of 1.11 g to a loss after treatment of 0.15 g, an 86% improvement.
-
Hail Impact was slightly improved after treatment. The improvement, 6.6%, was minimized by the type of shingle evaluated – organic felt based. The data suggests hail impact would have a greater improvement on FG mat-based shingles.
-
Fire Resistance ‘UL Speed of Flame:’ The treated shingles exhibited a flame spread of 86 in 2 vs. the untreated shingles exhibiting a 144 in2 spread. Greener Shingles rejuvenator proved 40% better flame resistance vs untreated shingles, this was unexpected.

Recent Lab Testing Updates
December 2022

The photos represent the particulates that have been ‘washed’ by the rain cycle in the Asphalt Pavement Weathering System. The Asphalt Pavement Weathering System has a means to capture particulates ‘washed off’ the mini roofs by during water / rain cycle (9 minutes per hour). The rain is a mild and soft uniform spray over the entire roof area.
The rejuvenator treatments were as directed and uniformly spray applied to the same aged shingles removed from the same elevation of the home.
The photos clearly indicate the particulate loss (predominately granules) is greater with the competitor rejuvenator than GSR . When the exposure is completed the particulate losses for each case will be quantified.
GSR is under continual lab testing and updates will be posted mid 2023
Continued Testing
Moss Removal
In addition to our third-party lab testing, Greener Shingles Rejvueantor has been conducting in-house field tests with the product in different conditions across North America. This specific continual moss removal test was started in May 2019 and continues into 2023.
The goal is to see what additional benefits the Greener Shingles Rejuvenator product offers. Our dealers have reported moss and algae clearing from rejuvenated roofs without traditional soft wash cleaning beforehand.
Although we still recommend traditional cleaning for immediate curb appeal, homeowners are seeing black streaking fading days to weeks after rejuvenation with the Greener Shingles Rejuvenator product.

Ongoing Cedar Shakes Testing
At present, we do not offer a guarantee for rejuvenating cedar shake shingles but our continual real-world testing has proven moss/algae removal and a cleaner look. We'll update this gallery as we continue to monitor these tests.
Extreme Example
Although we don't recommend rejuvenating shingles that are in this bad of shape, this (above) evidence does show how well the Greener Shingles Rejuvenator works. When applied to dried-out, brittle shingles that have curled up because of a lack of oil, the Greener Shingles Rejuvenator penetrates to the lower tab of the shingle, and the shingles laid back down flat. The color change is quite drastic in this example but shows how dried out the shingles were before the application. Now that the shingles once again have oil in them, the shingles will be able to withstand expansion and contracting and help to keep the remaining granule in place, effectively buying this homeowner sometime before total replacement.
